EVENTS
Both Salmon and Sturgeon events are Unisex Open.
INDIVIDUAL: Individual medals will be awarded in each category
(salmon or sturgeon) judged by the longest aggregate catch
of all fish caught by the angler.
GENERAL SPORT RULES for Angling-Fresh
Water
The catching of all fish will comply with local statutes.
The tournament will be catch and release.
A valid British Columbia fishing license is required and included
in the event fee
TEAM: 2 Person Team medals
will be awarded for the cumulative length of catches. To be
eligible to enter the Team event the competitor must also
enter the Individual event. If a competitor does not have
a partner, but wishes to enter the Team event, they may enter
"pooling". (See WPFG General Rules).
FACILITY: Sturgeon fishing
will take place on boats, while the salmon fishing will be
bar fishing from the bank of the river.
EQUIPMENT: Due to the specific
nature of the fishing, all equipment required (rod, reels,
line, hooks, etc) will be provided by the host.
SCHEDULING: Each shift of
the event is to be held over a maximum 6 hour period. A briefing
will be held the evening before the event to explain, demonstrate
and assist competitors regarding rules, the species of fish
to be caught and the fishing area. Depending on limitations
of car parking, proximity of facility and number of competitors
without transportation, some or all competitors may be taken
to the venue via bus for the competition, at the Host's discretion.
If bad weather occurs consideration will be given to rescheduling.
COMPETITORS’ EQUIPMENT & TACKLE:
Competitors must use the Host’s equipment and tackle
which is suitable for the type of angling being held. All
equipment will be provided and included in the cost of registration
All competitors will be sent a copy of the rules and relevant
event information with their Confirmation Letters.
Rules of Competition:
| 1. Each guide or bank worker will be responsible to
ensure competitors commence and cease angling at the designated
times. |
| 2. Each competitor will be restricted to one randomly
assigned rod with one single barb-less hook per line. |
| 3. Participants are permitted to fish one rod only and
must take the rod from the rod holder and set their own
hook. |
| 4. Guides will be responsible for all aspects of the
set up including baiting hooks, casting lines, etc. but
will not participate in setting hooks or playing of fish. |
| 5. Guides are permitted to be fully involved with the
landing of the fish but may not touch the rod or reel
during the process with the following exception: Once
the guide has touched the leader he may make adjustments
to the reel drag. |
| 6. When a fish is hooked all other lines may be removed
from the water at the discretion of the guide. |
| 7. A participant that has hooked a sturgeon is permitted
to pass the rod to another participant in his boat. This
catch will be considered a “boat catch” and
will be eligible to win the “Catch of the Day”
competition. |
| 8. Fish that are landed outside of the fishing boundaries
will count only if they are hooked within the designated
boundaries. |
| 9. All guides will ensure that all current Department
of Fisheries and Oceans and B.C. Environment fishing regulations
are followed. |
| 10. Only salmon and sturgeon hooked in the immediate
vicinity of the mouth will count towards the prizes. |
| 11. All sturgeon captured will be scanned and data will
be recorded on sheets provided. |
| 12. No bait traps of any description are permitted. |
| 13. The use of live or dead bait is a Host option. |
| 14. Wading may not be permitted in the waterway at Host
option. |
| 15. A Disputes’ Committee of 3 persons shall be
appointed and shall include the Sport Coordinator. |
| 16. Any competitor having any dispute or grievance of
any nature must submit the dispute or grievance to the
Disputes’ Committee within thirty (30) minutes of
disembarking. |
| 17. Any competitor who is found to have breached any
of the rules shall be subject to disqualification. |
